My Sister's Keeper himself tells the story of Fitzgerald's family which originally was a happy normal family would, but began to change when their children Kate, age 2 years, sentenced to suffer leukemia. Parties doctors declared her age is not long, but there are few alternative treatments that can be done. One treatment that can be used is the use of cord blood cells with a donor from their family members.
Family members must have a genetic similarity with the patient will not have a suitable donor for Kate, whether it's their own parents or her brother, Jesse. Therefore, Fitzgerald's family decided to have another child to be a donor for Kate, but the possibility of genetic incompatibility is big enough so they went to a geneticist to help them get a child.
Thus was born Anna, born in a seemingly 'designed' to be a donor could prolong her life. Injections, blood transfusions and surgery became commonplace for lived Anna Kate, at least it is believed by Sara and Brian. Anna was also dear to her, but when at its peak, Sara asks Anna to donate a kidney to Kate, Anna's heart began to rebel.
Therefore, Anna's courage to 'hire' Alexander Campbell to be his lawyer and his parents filed a lawsuit on her own medical rights . This case is complicated, because Anna had to deal with their own parents. Anna itself is relatively unstable, initially had back and forth, whether to continue this case or not. Because for him, win or lose, there will be a wounded heart, or even have to be sacrificed.
Of the parents, Anna, represented solely by Sara ever law school. Making this case involves too much 'feeling' that might make her more wobbly.
