Ullysses novel may be very satisfy critics of the novel taste, but Ulysses was not a friendly book for general readers. It could be said if Ulysses is a book that "Joyce friendly", and just meet the tastes Joyce (and of course the fans of Joyce), most readers enjoy it on certain parts. And with so many posts people make about Ulysses, about what is hidden behind the Ulysses, the novel seemed more majestic, more difficult, increasingly out of reach.
Maybe that's what makes Stephen Joyce, grandson of James Joyce, always make efforts to critics who asked him to quote copyrighted more than 40 words. According to Stephen Joyce, Ulysses is a novel that could reasonably be read if only we would read it like we used to read novels.
